Stuck Inside? Try These 7 Quarantine Tips to Stay Healthy and Sane

Young couple at home smiling planning quarantine with tips.

Most of us are spending a lot more time at home these days, with the appeal of endless Netflix binging and all-day pajamas getting old very fast.

With the stress of quarantine and everything that’s going on in the world, it’s more important than ever to take care of our physical and mental health.

Our team at Smile Connections Family Dental in Wichita, KS has compiled a list of 7 quarantine tips to keep you healthy during this challenging time.

1. Establish a daily routine

Many of us have had our normal routines disrupted.

We’re working remotely, dealing with kids at home, and perhaps even struggling with job loss or illness.

Without a clear routine, it’s easy to drift through the day in a state of chaos.

Take time to establish a routine for yourself and your family to provide a new source of structure. Follow regular bedtimes and mealtimes, and set boundaries between work and family time.

2. Practice self-care (pamper yourself!)

If you normally don’t have much time to practice self-care, now is a great time to show yourself some extra love!

That can mean anything from using at-home teeth whitening to taking a long soak in the tub – whatever feels good and relaxes you.

3. Eat wholesome, healthy foods

Nourish your body with nutritious, well-balanced meals.

Avoid excess sugar consumption, as it can lead to tooth decay and a host of other health problems.

4. Exercise daily

Move your body every day, even if it’s just stretching or simple exercises in your living room.

Find motivating at-home workout videos online and don’t be afraid to try something new!

If you can safely walk around your neighborhood while still practicing social distancing, fresh air can do wonders.

5. Spend time playing with family

When you’re stuck at home with your family (and potentially a group of restless screaming kids!) for long periods of time, it’s easy to get on each other’s nerves.

One way to combat this is to make time for play.

Find ways to turn everyday activities, such as brushing and flossing your teeth, into a fun family activity.

If you struggle to get your children to brush and floss their teeth, try showing them kid-friendly YouTube videos that teach them about oral hygiene.

6. Get plenty of rest

Getting enough sleep is critical to your overall health and well-being.

Without a normal structure to your days, it’s easy to fall into bad habits like staying up too late watching TV and compromising your precious sleep hours.

Get to bed on time so you can sleep at least eight quality hours each night.

7. Take care of your smile

Lastly, our favorite of the quarantine tips: Don’t neglect those pearly whites!

Remember: Oral health is the gateway to whole-body health.

While in quarantine, you may be missing your regular dental hygiene checkup. It’s extra important to practice diligent at-home care to get you through this time with a healthy smile!

At a minimum, brush your teeth twice a day and floss once a day.

We look forward to caring for you and your family soon!
